JAP 5 First Project
Well here it is My Dad's New Hobby and First Stationary Engine, myself and brother are helping along with a couple of keen under 5's.
The JAP 5 was advertised as Non-Runner but good project £80 we all went off and looked at it and got it for £60
A couple of issue jumped out on the unloved engine, Petrol cap is JAP but has bigger thread then the tank. the throttle link from carburettor to regulator is half missing and broken. (Can be seen in last picture)
It had a good spark and compression.
Couple of days later my dad and brother tinkered, set the gaps, fuelled it up, wound it up a few dozen times and it fired up (a little rough and smoky)
Dad now plans to make a temporary throttle link from carburettor to regulator, clean it a bit more and fire it up again before a full, every nut ad bolt strip down.

Re: JAP 5 First Project
Still looking for carb link, Dad still wants to get it running a bit better before full strip.
We found a link on line £48 + vat (20%) + Postage, more than we got the whole engine for.
We are still looking, thought we would look in spares at Steam Fairs but they may not be any till later in the year, if then.
We want to make a temporary one but don't know the centres, Can any kind person help.

Only before strip down. It ran rough and smoked, but did run.

Excellent! I always try to get some sort of life before spending a lot of time and effort (and cash!) on the cosmetic side.
BTW What's on the far end of that exhaust pipe?
