Will you be keeping/re-producing the serial number on top of the box?.

Re: Next project, another JAP 2A
Even though it looks to be over all a sandy colour (rust), on the aluminium parts it's a matt dark drab, so that's what it's going to be painted.
Yes I will be replacing the serial number .HG30 and the brass MA plaque has a location name on it, the base it was used at I guess, so that will give it some history.

Continuing with the restoration, bore honed, valves ground, two new main bearings, new gasket set.
I found the right colour paint, but it's gloss not matt, still pulling the gen set apart cleaning and repairing as I go.
I have since found out (google) why it has Aberdale on the AM plaque, as it was made by the Aberdale cycle company.

Coming along nicely. Does the generator work? This may be of interest..

I have seen that picture before, I don't know what the MK15 is all about, I will find out if the generator works once it's painted.

You are right about the MK15 - but maybe it was another option and photographer got confused?

No, never done one, plus I collect outboard anyway, I used to go to the Essex county show, but that has stopped, nothing to see any more, all too far away.
The Jap will just get put away with the other one.

Re: Next project, another JAP 2A
There will be a serial number on the JAP engine at the top of the crankcase but below the cylinder fins, might need a wire brush to find it. The engine can be dated and that will probably be the date of the set.

Re: Next project, another JAP 2A
I dated my one from the engine number I think, I did see that one for sale very local to me, didn't need another, still have some parts knocking about.
Aberdale was the maker, Aberdale cycle company or something.
