New little project
Picked a new little project up yesterday well pleased with it, made a start on the clean up on it today by stripping and cleaning the tail stock and cross slide, should'ent take to long to sort the rest, and as there is no makers plate or marks would like to find out who made it and possible age any help much appriciated

Re: New little project
No mate just clean metal at the moment not sure on what the finish will be it appears by what paint was left on it that the orignal colour was a sort of blue grey colour so could go that route or use the good old blackner on it, will wait and see

Quick update after searching the internet and asking some questions have now found out its a "Portass Model S backgeared and screwcutting lathe" dated circa 1926

I was just about to say that
Nice handy bit of kit there Abes, sure it will look good when up and running. Are you planning on putting an electric motor on it so it can be used as I don't think an engine will keep it turning at a set speed. Then if you want to rally it just belt it to an engine on the day so to speak.

Thats the plan Stu but then again plans can change lol, still not sure of the finish it will get but there's no rush

sounds like will suit the job well ...
we all like a nice peace of hardwood timber makes the job look so much better and professional than a peice of pine from b & q etc
