WORK HAS STARTED ON MY 1931 LISTER A
Morning,
well since purchasing this engine it has sepnt 18 months in my dads garage.
I have now decided it was time to start work on it and give it a face lift for the new season.
I am hoping to have it running my Lister H2 pump, when I finish it.
Started to clean the flywheel and pulley wheel last night. Going to make a new trolley out of either Ash or Oak and varnish it all up. new set of wheels and axels have been started on.
I am going to replace all of the fuel pipes. Someone has shaped these by hand and they are a bit twisted and untidy for my liking.
A few fresh coats of paint for the engine and of course some nice polished brass bits and she will be done!!
Photos attached are of the fly wheels I started to clean up last night.
regards
Mart.

Hi Steve,
I clean the flywheels with a 80 grit emery flap wheel in my drill.
Rips off the rubbish really quick and brings them up like shinny new pennies!!
Dont know why but someone had varnished over all the rust and grime!!!!!
Regards

Good Idea, looks like it works a treat.
I normally just used a sanding pad while the engine is running.

Re: WORK HAS STARTED ON MY 1931 LISTER A
Well, I have done a bit more to the engine over the weekend and tonight.
1) Full tank and pipes are off and ready to make some nice new ones.
2) Taps taken off the hopper and cleaned out with 1/2 bsp tap. ( I am going to fit two brass drain taps to the hopper on this one)
3) Fly wheels totally cleaned and covered with some clear thin greace.
4) Fuel pump taken off tonight and totally cleaned and overhauled, although I do need to get hold of some of the thin gland packing that is inside around the plunger (If anybody has some please let me know).
5) Brass greaser taken off and cleaned
Nearly ready to clean up one or two little spots of rust, then its cracking on with new fresh paint job. I have put some more pictures of the renovation as I go.
Timber for new trolley ordered from work and new set of wheels being shot blasted as we speak.
Regards
Martin.

Hi,
Try this link.
http://www.stationaryengineparts.com/Lister-A-and-B-spares/
They have a few parts and gaskets that you may require.
They also have the handbooks for them.
regards
Martin.

HI KEV....
you must show us some photos of it now, then some as you get more into it and then of course when its all finished...
with the gaskets,as Chris said the rings are the only ones i know you can get,all the rest are DIY jobs like you said..
and if you need some packing for the fuel pump CHRIS and I have some in stock,so let us know and one of us will send you some..
well good luck with your latest acquisition, and like i said show us the photos of it ...
regards...mike..

Martin I find him expensive but when you need something and he's got it you havn't a lot of choice in the matter. I know he gets parts from India not sure if he gets them made there cheap, yet I've never heard anyone complain about stuff they've bought from him so it must be ok.
