Hi everyone, had my first look at a cs lister in the flesh today and even managed to start it without invoking any personal health policies(much easier than I thought) definitely looks like the engine of choice for powering the generator I picked up today, this is a BKB generator-serial no. B6456, 230 volt, 50cycles, 0.5KW, 10.8 AMPS AT1500rpm, and has a stuart turner switchboard serial no. 34747. would anyone be able to help me with any information please, still on the hunt for an engine at the moment and also looking for a heavy duty inverter 48volt to 240, considering using a bank of batteries off a milk float or similar electric vehicle as these should have a good capacity for storing power, is there anyone in the wiltshire area who is running on their own generator and would they mind if I came and had a look at it, taking photos and film as the project goes on and hoping to put it on line eventually, all the best to you all nigel

0.5Kw is not very big! if you are thinking of running a house then I would have thought 4.5Kw or bigger

Im up at Corsham but dont have what you require but can help if needed.

0.5KW = 500W so might be alright for a shed/garage.

i like the idea of get off the grid, alot cheaper and prob more realiable, would like to see how it works out make sure you take photos Very Happy

I would stay on the grid and sell any extra back Very Happy theres a big lister Gen set on Flebay atm

if you are careful about whats running at any given time, you can get away with 3kw without too much bother, which is within the realms of the 5/1 and 6/1 cs, only the 8hp will run a 4.5kw comfortably.

but 0.5kw definately isnt enough, it wont be enough to power anything, and it wont be enough to warm the engine up and stop the bore glazing.

look for at least 2kw, 3 is better

Thanks for all the replys and information on the generator, good news panic over it is a 2.5 Kv unit had misread the info on the plate, had a closer look tonight the commutater and slip rings look o.k nothing has been butchered and there is no residual smell of burning, hopefully all it needs is a strip down service and repaint, when I find out how to add videos and photos this will make it more interesting for everyone regards to all Nigel

This is true, I had a hand in installing a "New" C/S last year, was one from Stationary engine parts, engine was a bit of a rough diamond but for a new engine it did take away the blokes worry about reliability ( I don't think)> This was fitted to a 4.5Kw genny, this size for a number of reasons,
1. Water heater-2.8Kw.
2. Bore pump -650watts.
3 Works Computer (He is a Weather man so needs online access 24-7(So he said))
4 3 Kids with lap tops
5 Wife's hair dryer.


The thing is set to run on Veg oil, with a tank heater (300watt) and a spot heater on the injector pipe

Only one snag...It will not run the Washing machine, Micro wave or anything else with an electric motor, somrthing to do with conductive loads... Sleep

Thanks for the information Paul, I assume he is powering his equipment straight from the generator, hopefully by using a battery reserve bank and an inverter this should get round the problem.
