Climax small domestic pump
When I restored this one it never had any evidence of what model or make it is other than it looks like a Climax
This Climax is clearly identified but it is probably barely half the size of the other but unless viewed side by side it is not obvious. I have two of these so all the best parts will go into one.

Re: Climax small domestic pump
I had one of those smaller Climax pumps that I bought from the late Percy Gallamore (Blue Cats father) and ran for 20+ years before I sold it on. I never had to do anything at it apart from at Lincoln rally one year when I used water from the plastic barrels they supply and tiny plastic shavings became wedged in the valves! Easily sorted though, and a lesson learned.

Nice one, at least it came apart. The last 2 Stuart pumps I've had have been been PITA to get apart.

Looks marvellous
Today I've stripped cleaned and reassembled the drive end.

Re: Climax small domestic pump
I don't understand how the big opening on top of the pump body is meant to be used. Seems to be to add lubricant but you just can't keep adding oil? beyond the oil level of the filler plug.
EDIT
I've just had a thought that it must be to release pressure created by the piston in each direction and allow expelled oil to drain back in.

So the wet end
Parts missing here namely springs and washers
Tomorrow I'm going to make a tool for removing the brass caps. I plan to use a 16mm bolt and reduce the 24mm hex head to fit.

Re: Climax small domestic pump
I thought that the pumps may have been designed with a mounting for an electric motor, similar to the Lister domestic pump! Or maybe to put some kind of packing in there for keeping the piston lubricated! I made an alloy plate to go on mine, not a tight fit but tight enough to stop any crud going in.

Climax valve assemblies
The picture I've seen of a Climax with an electric motor shows it renders the hole in the top inaccessible so IMHO its as I said and relieves air pressure from the piston moving too & fro.
A 14mm bolt has a 22mm hex head and this fits the brass caps. So I welded a nut on the thread to use it as a tool. Despite this it still needed huge leverage.
Fortunately a second pump I have has the correct valve parts
After cleaning
As they should look

Re: Climax small domestic pump
One thing I discovered today is that the valve caps are 1 1/8" BSP how strange and non conformist is that?

Re: Climax small domestic pump
Its a good job I have two pumps to draw parts from because I lost this. I can only assume it got knocked off the bench into the bin and bin day was yesterday
Anyway so far I've taken most parts from the other pump including all four valve springs.
The wet end piston parts were also better from pump 2
I've ordered 1.1/4" leather cups
As an upgrade to the lost part I fitted a rubber grommet
Time to start thinking about paint while I await parts.

That's coming on a treat, going to look awesome when it's finished!
The picture with the Petter and bigger climax pump, where did you get the sliding base for adjustment on the belt, or was it something you made?

Re: Climax small domestic pump
Thank you for that! Just had a look and not as dear as I thought, you probably couldn't make it for much less than those prices!

Can you remember what size your base was?

Re: Climax small domestic pump
Won't help you unless your pump is the one I used which is very much bigger than this Climax
45kg compared to the current one about 20kg

Re: Climax small domestic pump
A little time on the lathe and buffer has made a respectable job of this cap. The other still needs a bit more effort but will be ok

Re: Climax small domestic pump
I decided to improve on my homemade tool.
I have a cap for spare too
The colour is going to be Belle Mixer Orange, as iconic as JCB yellow, John Deere Green and Massey Ferguson red.

Re: Climax small domestic pump
Thanks
I've just made a cover for the top to fit as a motor mounting plate would. It's made from 6mm paxolin so won't rust or degrade and painted it will look like metal.

Re: Climax small domestic pump
A piece of 6mm thick rubber enough to cut five valve discs £2.30 delivered.
The 1.1/4" wet end piston cups arrived, I just need to drill them out to 16mm.
