jap 2 a flywheel Empty jap 2 a flywheel

Hi all can anyone give me an idea on how to remove a flywheel from a jap 2 a. The shaft with the flywheel mounted ends in the rope starter pully in the centre of which is what looks like a very large screw head with slot around 6 mm wide. This ( screw head) refuses to budge even with as much heat as I dare put in. Could it be a left hand thread or am I barking up the wrong tree.

G'day Kev,

I'm doing a restoration on a J.A.P. 2a as well and mine had a nut where yours has the 6mm screw head.

I can tell you my nut came off in the regular direction - ie: anticlockwise to loosen.

You might be interested in watching this YouTube video - the part that should interest you starts at about 4 minutes 30 seconds.
