Removing a JAP 2A flywheel
Hi,
I've just acquired a JAP 2a that I have started to dismantle with the aim of getting it working again. I cannot get the starting pulley/flywheel off. It all looks like it is one piece but reading around suggests it is separate parts?
If anyone has any ideas I would be really grateful. Thanks!

Re: Removing a JAP 2A flywheel
The flywheel and starter pulley are seperate parts on my 2A.
Remove the covers
Jam the flywhel so it wont rotate (old fashioned strap wrench is good)
Shock the starter pulley backwards (if all else fails use stillsons)
Slight tap and the flywheel should come loose
Thats how mine shifted

JAP Flywheel
Hi, thanks for the reply.
Sorry am real newbie. When you say shock the pulley backwards, how can I do that? And what are Stillsons?
(A bit embarrassed- I don't know too much. Am hoping to pick up more as I go).

Re: Removing a JAP 2A flywheel
Stilsons (pipe wrench)
or anything that you can get to grip the starter pulley to turn it anti clockwise
alternatively you need to loosen the the central bolt (normally looks like a giant slotted screw head) as this is what holds the starter pulley and flywheel on the crankshaft.

Brilliant. Thanks for that. Not tried those ideas yet. Im guessing they take a bit of brute force to get off?
