Universal Petrol Engine - No. F 16637
Im contemplating buying an engine off eBay again.
The information on it is:
Universal Petrol Engine
No. F 16637
8 BHP
800/900 RPM
I found a picture of a complete restored one online
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Does anyone have any more information about it, maybe a manual or something lying around?
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Chris

Petter PU8, side valve twin, run at about 1800rpm and produce 8hp at rated speed, likes a drink of petrol, mainly used in the forces but also had use in civilian life. All ali block with cast barrels, exhaust tends to be rotted out as this is in contact with the ground.
Will drink a tank of fuel a day at a rally...

as villiers says they need to go to the engine version of the .A.A.A THINK IT WOULD THEN BE CALLED G.G.A" gas guzzlers annonimus"
i have 2 of them in the full military frames with toolbox and hoses p.t.o flexes ect ,one never run and the other came with just missing part of the magneto
but they do bark well ,down side is size, weight and fuel economy

Ah, good to know! If I can get it for £60 including postage, I think it's worth a go.
From the sounds of it, I won't be able to fire it up much though!
The exhaust looks okay on the engine I'm looking at, from what I can see, it may just need a new paint job and it should look like new!

The finned exhaust elbows are also very easy to break, and almost impossible to locate as spares.
If you get it take great care with them.

Re: Universal Petrol Engine - No. F 16637
Yep, I have had some quite reasonable quotes for delivery by pallet!
I thought it would be very expensive, but it turns out to be rather cheap!
I think £35 - £40 is the most I can really spend on the actual engine, as I have a pocketwatch I need to pick up from the repair shop, so I need to spend £100 on that. :/
The person selling it is willing to let me pay later in the month though as I dont get payed till then, so we shall see what happens!

Re: Universal Petrol Engine - No. F 16637
Got a pallet quote of about £20 or £30 including VAT from... Who were they... Someone I found on google, didn't bookmark them.
The reserve turns out to have been £200. I bid £45 and won, but I cant pay £200 for something that needs as much work as that does. Checked out others of the same type that have been on eBay and they didnt sell. One was up for £25 and didn't even sell.
Had a look at that link, if I can't get this one, I think that one may be a good project! Thanks for pointing it out, I didn't see it when I have been looking!

Petters other flat twin...
Well, I was going to go for that, but they dont want to put it on a pallet. Unfortunate really, it looked like it would be a brilliant project!
I may have to try and sweeten the deal for them, see if I can convince them!

Hello and welcome!
You may get a better response to you question if you start a new thread rather than tagging onto a 10 year old thread...
