Ideal Petrol Engine
I recently acquired this engine, serial #803 3" bore, 6"stroke. The main issue is I have no piston and conrod as well as no chain tensioner and governor bore weight.
I have not seen any other Hardy Padmore, gas or petrol engines in NZ. If someone would be kind enough to sketch a drawings of the missing parts, I am capable of making patterns, casting and machining parts to complete the engine.
I am also missing camshaft drive chain (block chain). I think it would match B502PM conveyor chain?
Is anyone able to help with dating this engine?
Can someone explain the cutaway section on the crankpin flange? See photos

Many thanks
Kind regards

Re: Ideal Petrol Engine
Hi Gavin and a very warm welcome to the forum. Always nice to have another Antipodean on board.
Good luck with your project - way more than I could chew.
Found this address on ubend - might be worth an email if you haven't already done so. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Also on ubend is a video from Edendale Crankup by merv1908.

I would also contact Patrick Knight at Stationary Engine Magazine, [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] with a short article that he could put in the magazine and get a global possible response.

Re: Ideal Petrol Engine
Wow !! Hardy & Padmore "Ideal" engine built to Southalls patents, dating to about 1896-1904. These are super rare, Gavin, and highly sought after. A restored one sold for about £16000 here in the UK four years ago, so you can afford to spend quite a lot on the restoration.

Re: Ideal Petrol Engine
Many thanks for the feedback. Merv1908 has been very helpful.
Would skip link bicycle chain fit sprockets - 1" by 3/16" in place of block chain?
