Lister injector problem Empty Lister injector problem

Post by craigx Thu Aug 02 2012, 11:15

Hi , I have a Lister LD1 which I have just cleaned up. Unfortunately, I can't get it to run. I believe that the injector is blocked. Is it possible to strip an injector down and clean it without specialist tools. ie can I do it myself.

Best regards
Craig

Yes - I bled it properly- plenty of diesel, under pressure, arrives at the injector, nothing comes out.

No Craig, inside the injector there's springs set at a certain torque, not sure of the injector but you might be able to take the end cap off but that won't show you much. Also please take care because if you have the injector out of the bore checking it, the spray that comes out the end can easily blow a hole though your finger. The only thing I can suggest is give the tip a clean with a wire brush, but it sounds like more then carbon blocking it. These old diesels were used in poor conditions and there fuel tanks filled with any old drum so more then likely it would need a strip down and clean at a fuel injection specialists or check out ebay, I've seen them but there around the £55.
It's a lot of years since I worked on these so maybe someone else that's worked on them more recently can tell you more info as to stripping them down.

Stu.
