Hello all. I'm in the process of restoring a deutz mah711 stationary engine. It doesn't have the engines plate ...but I have noticed a number punched in to the back end of the crankcase casting. As its punched...I just wondered if it might be the engines serial number rather than a casting number?
It is 583591.
Can anyone help please?... as it would be great to know the age of the engine.

Thanks...I'm relatively new to this...I can easily understand mechanical things...but computers /phones leave me cold...and I'm a slow learner with those!!
