Tangye dating
Can anyone point in in the direction of someone who may be able to help with dating our Tangye GL9B at the National Waterways Museum. We have recently re commissioned this engine and are searching for a bit more information about it. The information we have is that it dates from 1949, though I am a bit dubious about this as I've read recently that they stopped producing engines after the war to concentrate on manufacturing pumps.Cant seem to find much about Tangyes on the internet except for some early stuff from the 1900's. Re: Tangye dating
You don't give an engine number, which might help.
A chap called Dan Howden is quite knowledgeable on Tangye engines.
Message me for his email details.
Type FL9 diesel, number 36732 was made in 1933 if that helps.
Yes, production of engines did reduce after the end of WW2, but it didn't finish then.
The A-Z of Stationary Engines notes that the last diesel engine was built in 1963.

Thanks Blue Cat. The Tangye page on FB has confirmed that the details we have are correct. Engine number 39100 was indeed manufactured in 1949 and sent to Holmewood Pumping Station.
