Cooling fan bearing - Lister D
Hi,
further to my previous posts about radiator and cooling tanks.... I starte designing a tank and decided I didnt like the look of it.... and given that Lister D radiators etc are impossible to obtain on their own.... I have now fortunately won a Coventry Climax radiator on ebay...
so, apart fromt he fact that the pipes are on the wrong side... but thats not a problem...
I am going to make the radiator surround etc as per Lister D style from sheet steel which is easy, similarly the brackets to bolt on... which then I will modify an tank top cover for the correct size pipe... thats easy...
my problem now... is finding a suitable bearing plate of some sort for the fan...ideally I would like a close up phto of the original arrangement, if anyone could provide this... andd any possible ideas for a possible alternative I coul;d bolt on that at least looks semi original...
At the moment, the fan bearing and mounting is my only problem with my retrofit design..... if all fails in this little project I would fit a dynamo and electric fan.. then hide it inside the cowling..but I would rather at least try and keep it to some design that actually at least looks original to the casual eye...

Thanks for that. I have had a re-think about "project radiator" and have decided not to molest the original 1945 crop sprayer and instead use the radiator for a new project.... a non-original bits and pieces Lister D that I will use to play with various things.....I am thinking of making a little generator or air compressor setup, ie...that way i can experiment with different things and not destroy anything historic....and this way can make my own cooling fan arrangement...

I have a Morris radiator here with a cooling fan on it if you want something with a radiator on it, will be fine on anything up to about 10 hp.

yes, have got a spare 65 amp alternator that I removed from the tractor to replace with the original 10 amp dynamo...........after re-polarising the dynamo (positive earth...) it worked fine.
