New Toy/Unknown Engine
Hello
I have been out today and bought a new toy, freshly imported from the states. In need of a bit of work but is complete
Now im not sure what it is, I bought it as a Maynard engine. But looking around i now believe it is an ottwa log saw engine.
Its 1 1/2hp
Low tension
Hit and miss.
Can anyone identify it for me.
Sorry for the bad pictures.
Many Thanks Lewis

hi Lewis, Looks like a great import to me! are you restoring it? Also looks like it should have a Webster mag, do you have the mag?

Re: New Toy/Unknown Engine
certainly do have the magneto but the threads and part of the base have been pulled out. we believe it has been hit and broken away.
I think i will just linseed oil it. As its showing through green paint and the signwritting is showing through both sides.
Heres the webster
Many Thanks Lewis

Re: New Toy/Unknown Engine
sweet lump of rust there mate
rust id like to have in my shed anyway
looks like a saw engine with that casting going over to the pulley side
there maybe linking point for saw motion hidding in the middle of wood or a gear "not to hot on this make to be honest but theres a few others that will be far more helpful than i can be
hoping the linseed brings the paint and details out far more for you as it looks posable from the pics
i have an engine i was going to linseed ,but it looks more like 100% rust and no remains of paint so may have to " polish a turd"
sorry had to get a turd polish in here somwere been quite a topic for a week or so

Re: New Toy/Unknown Engine
I have been working on it. Been waiting for parts mostly though. Got some new piston rings from the states which arrived the other day and are now fitted. I've also fixed the mag, I used fibreglass resin in the end which has held the studs.
I'm having the mag remagnitised tommorrow. So hopefully if that works it shall be running tommorrow.
Ill put some pictures up when I'm next on the computer.

Re: New Toy/Unknown Engine
Hello All
I have got the piston back in the engine. got the broken piston ring off the piston. Then fitted the new piston ring.
Heres some pictures of the piston. The piston is 4 1/2 inch wide x 6 inch long.
https://s262.photobucket.com/user/revo_2008/media/Snapbucket/2F810C40_zps904aca8a.jpg.html
The piston on the left is a standard lister d type, the piston on the right is the ottawa one. Bit different in size.
I have been over a good friend of mines and we have sorted the magneto out. The points where adjusted round slightly to make better contact. We then remagnitised it and it now produces a lovely blue spark.
Next thing was to get it running.
After timing it back up and sorting everything out. i attempted to start it, on the 4 pull of the flywheel she burst into life. It ran very quick indeed so after a few adjustments it was running better. I need to make a temporary trolley for it and get it staked to the ground. This will keep it steady and let me adjust it better.
Many thanks Lewis
