Lister Domestic Water Pump
Picked up a Lister domestic water pump this week, managed to get it stripped down today. Happy to find that the bearings and oil seals look in great condition, it really just needs a good clean up.

Great little starter pumps these are, just make sure you get the flap valves right way up on the plate in the vessel.

Hi Billy
I like it as it is, I'll be running it off my 1951 Wolseley WD8 which hasn't got a fancy paint job so I'll probably leave it for now.

Re: Lister Domestic Water Pump
ah thats easy ..
On the front of the pump unscrew the plug and unscrew the piston , should be a nut on the front you can get spanner on failing that get the grips on the brass or bronze rod but careful not to mark it like use a rag in jaws etc . and the there should be a while washer that is called a drip wiper that just sits on the rod made from rubber i think ( have one here if you would like it for the postage , its new ) . There there is a small steel cup that holds the seal in either remove the cup with the seal in or just hook the seal out and replace . Tip tap the new seal home with a socket the same size as the outer diameter . then resemble .
If get stuck give me a Pm .

Re: Lister Domestic Water Pump
Thanks a lot Matt, got it sorted. Going by the photo do you think that it's in enough? That's as far as it will go without getting too heavy handed with it.

Re: Lister Domestic Water Pump
hasn't the cup got a recess in it when you took the seal out ? if it has i would knock until bottoms out or until the seal is flush with the cup .
matt
Ps do you want this wiper seal ?

Re: Lister Domestic Water Pump
I'll give it another go tomorrow, but I think it may have bottomed out. Yes I would like the drip washer if that's ok, shall I post you a stamped address envelope, would that be the easiest way?
Cheers

Re: Lister Domestic Water Pump
All very good but..... Your crank is in the wrong way round, it should have the drive pulley on the right hand side as viewed from the head, not a problem with what you have there but you are driving it the wrong way and as the "Domestic" has a scooped big end cap you will be starving the big end of oil.
