Marine Engine Ideas
Not sure if this is the right place for this but it's the closest I could find... I've been thinking of getting a marine engine of some sort but I don't know any... If anyone could I help I'm thinking of something small, diesel or 2-stroke and water cooled, not sure if anything like that exists...
Any help would be great!
Thanks!

Re: Marine Engine Ideas
Recently had a Vire, others have done Stuart Turners which can look great, then there are Coventry Victor flat twins, Thornycroft, the delightful little Albin and plenty of marine Petters and Listers. Missed off lots of other names.
Beware though, the small volume engines have expensive parts sometimes exclusive to them which makes matters far worse. Petters and Listers normally have parts common to the land based variants.

Re: Marine Engine Ideas
Looks fascinating! I know nothing about those but doubt they would be cheap! Others may be able to tell more.
One thing to think about is that a some marine engines have 'wet' exhausts. IE the cooling water exits via the exhaust keeping it cool too. This can present a few problems with a static exhibit...

If your hoping to rallys something like that i would try to make it quieter . Would annoy a few neighbors imo .

Re: Marine Engine Ideas
Good point! After looking around I saw the Stuart Turner P55 (I think that's right) looks interesting, are they ridiculously expensive? Maybe what I should have said earlier is does anyone know of cheap marine engines like the Stuart Turner? Are these even good engines? I'm a bit in the dark!

Re: Marine Engine Ideas
Yes, I sold the Vire 6 due to neighbour concerns! The baby Stuart is called the R3 or similar.
Search this forum, there is quite a lot about Stuarts and I posted some pics of the Vire.
Isn't there a forum called Old Boat Engines or somesuch? Mostly US though.
I think you have a couple of things that work against you
1) Old boat engines used to get junked and many of the more interesting ones were junked when baby diesels came along (which is quite a long time a go now)
2) Anything that is associated with boats/marine etc costs more...
