Wico A type magneto
Hello everyone
Just a quick Question on a wico a maggie. It works fine except that the impulse mechanism was playing up so I pulled it apart and cleaned it up now I cant get it to work at all and I feel like a bit of a dick.
Can anyone help me out with a diagram or something?
thanks and thankyou everybody for the warm welcome to the forum
Cheers Wayne

Re: Wico A type magneto
Years ago I had a reproduction booklet for these magnetos, with full diagrams & instructions. I saw what looked like this book for sale on StationaryEngineParts.Com for the extortionate fee of around a fiver.
When I eventually took delivery of it it was nothing like the booklet I remember. It's an extremely thin, practically useless booklet with the most minimal information coupled with a meaningless array of pictures with code numbers, but nothing to tell you what these numbers mean.
Basically, what I'm saying is; Don't buy the little Wico A Magneto booklet from SationaryEngineParts.Com, it's a complete & utter rip-off. In fact, I've yet to buy anything from that lot that's satisfactory, I wouldn't bother with them at all.
In the meantime, if I ever dig up the original booklet, as I'm sure I still have it somewhere, I will be sure to get some pictures of the relevant parts & post them up for you.

hi there
and a warm welcome to the forum from me
hope you will enjoy it on here, as much as i do
as for the impulse on your wico series a ,i have just done 2 of them over the last week or so
before we get into this topic will you find out which way the engine connect will turn from looking at the point of mounting the mag into the coupling
clock or anticlockwise will then do you a part by part rebuild with pics for you ,not hard but many bits in set ways around ,also is the mag drive shaft D shaped or two flats were the theads are also.

wico a type
how are you going Nutts,
It would be great if you could find that manual. I think there must be a couple more parts to it than I have. I know I didn't lose any when I pulled it out, so they must have fallen inside somewhere.
Thanks
Wayne

I've sent you a PM with some info, hope it helps. In the meantime, what direction does the mag rotate in? (looking at the drive end, not the points end). Kev can post up some pics if he knows which direction it is, as there's some bits which need to go in the right way round.
Not sure I'll be finding my WICO book any time soon, it was last seen about 17 years ago, & may well have disappeared completely in that time, but some other stationary engine literature from my childhood has surfaced recently, so there's a chance it's still about.

can you take a picture of the bits you have for the inpulse and will tell you if theres any missing
the manual will just be confusing as there is no diagrams or full rebuild instructions just a parts list for the full series A range
1-2-3-4 cylinder clock anticlock ect ect
i will get the info to you as soon as i get a pic of what spec yours parts are mate
i will re-PM you my email adress again for the pics to get to me as its a few more days until you get your pic/video privialges
