Wolseley Colour Empty Wolseley Colour

Post by KevinButch Sun Oct 28 2012, 22:17

Hi, Could anybody tell me what denotes the colour of my WD8 Eng No 26839. Should it be Green or Grey or may be another ? It was fitted to a cement mixer and painted grey but with more preparation is green underneath. Any advice much appreciated .

Kevin to make it simple, it's your engine so paint it what ever colour you want. If you want to keep with tradition either green or grey or burgundy would be acceptable as these are the 3 main colours you'll see a WD painted.
The shade they recommend to use are either Austin/Morris Engine Green or Battleship Grey but as for the green a lot just use mid brunswick the same as a Lister. You will need to use the correct paint, machine enamel is what you need it does go under a few other names just make sure it's petrol/oil proof and can stand a reasonably high temp.
I hope this has been of help if you need any more info please ask.

Take a look at this site and you can choose your own colours.

hi kev
BATTLE SHIP GREY is not available colour anymore, from the car spray paint mixures,
the closest available is now called MED.SEA GREY code BS3 671
but that was only originally painted on the wd1 and wd11 models and not the later wd8
but paint it pink if you want to and yes there are pink wd`s out there
thanks kev

Thanks Guys, I wanted to paint it grey to make a change from all the green Listers in my collection so you have put my mind at ease because I did not want "experts" telling me it was the wrong colour for that type/year.

Kevin that's what this forum is about, you do what you want to your own engine we're not here to judge anyone just see an engine restored and up and running. So paint it how ever you want, Jonesey on this forum painted a Wolseley for his daughter and yes you guessed it's pink and looks great.

black is the new 50 shades of grey then  Very Happy Very Happy
wife wanted me to paint mine pearlescent bright pink  Shocked  Rolling Eyes
bet i looks  great in black to be honest mate
with the lettering silver, red or gold
but wolseley never did paint out the lettering to stand out so its all your own style of finish as paint is a preserver for years to come and saving the old is the name of the game here  Wink
would love to see some finished pics of it ,as i love a wolseley wd and wish i never sold mine yrs back ,but am always looking to buy another in the future
happy cranking
any starting issues just ask as they are easy if you have done it before ,but if not remember the threaded guvernoir speed control knob ,screw clockwise for faster for starting with the choke lever ficked over and tickled, then slow it back and dechoke it after a min or so
