You have obviously never heard one running either Ian, a painfull experience! They must have been the noisiest diesel invented, that's why you dont see many at rallies.

Re: villiers D270 aircooled diesel to the collection
well ive swapped the jap 55 v/o for the villiers diesel d270
one in one out so had a scrapper on it and got the lumps of gungy shi poopee off
and got the rocker cover off to find it full of buxton spring water
and the fuel tank has diesel in it and no water thank good but the engine sump looks water free to well what i can see though filler, side cover ect
so the rockers are under load from the valves and ive got to get the rocker shaft out to release the pressure and get the valve spring compressure in there
so the maybe rockers flying through space soon tonight
kev

Re: villiers D270 aircooled diesel to the collection
Sounds as you may have your work cut out with this one me thinks, so you'll have to keep us posted and a few pics would be nice along the way to see your progress.
Now as for my sheds I don't think my wife could find the lock up so what makes you think you'll get me to take you to my Aladins cave and I need to have a sort around as I'm thinking or getting a bigger shed (to work in this time) but I can't go to big because of a stupid main hole cover in the middle of the back garden so I'll have to work out if it's worth getting a shed a few feet bigger will I achieve what I'm after (no it will never be big enough ) just hoping these shed places have a winter sale on and I can get one at a good price and the shed I have is going to my daughter as she needs one.

Re: villiers D270 aircooled diesel to the collection
well the pston has been soaking all night with my cocktail in , but still no joy
noticed the flywheel and alloy bell housing has a 1mm at most clearance and over 1" of the 2 overlap with this small gap which with the corrosion
from the cast and alloy wont be helping to get it moving
the bell housing bolts are berried behind the flywheel out of reach the flywheel is now released from the crank but still not going anywere hast
so thats just upsetting for the minute
but the rocker shaft pushrods injector silencer are all off the cylinder head, but yet again cant go forward untill the piston is moving in the bore as its a semi blind head untill valves are compressed and the collets out to drop the valves into the cylinder bore

Kev then the bigger size shed to go over the cover will be too big and block all the light out of the kitchen.

Re: villiers D270 aircooled diesel to the collection
well been chating to pete FODEN
and he says i can borrow his crank handle to make a copy from
if its the right size as pete has know tought me there were 2x sizes of the diesels a D270 and a D415
so thats somthing i didnt know and glad to learn it at this early time of restoring one or the other sizes
found a d415 on utube , the only visable difference i can see is the flywheel is alot fatter in the middle so that maybe the only difference
just more flywheel momentum

Kev the engine details on mine are on a large plate rivetted to the top of the aircleaner housing, it gives the serial number and the oil specs etc. The D415 is a larger engine physically and very few parts are interchangeable with the smaller one, maybe a pic would help to identify it? If your engine has a decompressor fitted then it may be a 415 as a lot of the smaller version didn't have them fitted and they were a right pig to start whereas all the 415's had them.
Pete.
