I have spotted that 2 of my wheels have a crack in , but has not totally broken out .
What is the best way to repair them ...? I could mig it but would not be that good of a weld on cast ... i was thinking i could braze it though .
any ideas , matt

Re: Cast wheels ...
cast welding is hard and a i shall not swear to do as you have to heat the cast before welding it and then cooling off as slow as poss other wise it will just crack again and possably worse than it was before
ive seen people weld cast and as its cooling break into 5 pieces like a hand granade going off
special rods and welding technics for cast and the rods arnt cheap either

Re: Cast wheels ...
Get yourself some cast rods black coated ones are best . V the crack out then put in oven to warm up.
Then weld, just let cool down on its own.

Re: Cast wheels ...
I have a pulley in getting repaired at present and the guy that's doing the job has said the same as Kev and hopes that new cracks don't appear.
Matt if it's not structual I think I'd drill a very small hole at each end of the crack if possable to stop it spreading then use chemical metal to fill the crack.

That's what I would do. I repaired a block with araldite (similar to chemical metal) 20 years ago. Filed it flat and painted it over. You can't even see it was done.stationary stu wrote:I have a pulley in getting repaired at present and the guy that's doing the job has said the same as Kev and hopes that new cracks don't appear.
