Scott PAB Restoration

Well after having it sitting around for a couple of months and with the Lister A now completed thought it was about time it got some TLC, now this is not going to be a fast turn around job as going to take my time as no rush plus need to find out as much info as i can find on it, have already got a fair bit but would like to source a strip down guide if one exists plus some dating and history info would be nice too but not holding my breath on these two.
Will do pics of progress as it gets done oh and this one is getting painted though all the ali parts will be left bare, aquired pics of some vintage Scott motorcycles and they where painted in a maroon/red colour (see pic) so this is the colour or as close as i can get to it that its going to get done in.

Steve (Skanking Giant) is the 'Guru' on those Abes, however he appears to have done a runner from this forum?

Cheers mate have already been in touch with Steve and he has already given me all the info he has which was great, thats why iam still looking for the other info as thats the stuff he did'ent have so any help pointing me too another source would be much appriciated.

The Scott colour is lovely However I am biased as my grandfather was a keen motorcyclist in the 1920s and 1930s and he had 2 Scotts, a Squirrel and a later Flying Squirrel. I wish he'd kept them!

I believe one of the Bradford archives has some Scott and or Jowett holdings [they both did stationary engines] - my dad lives in Shipley so I'll ask him to find out.

Any information very much appriciated mate, would also like to know what the actual colour is called and even better a code number would be great as cant see it being an off the shelf paint lol

As requested a quick update on tonights progress, fuel tank and fittings all removed as is the top part of the exhaust and down pipes and the ali head cover, drained the fuel tank down as it still had fuel in it, inside the fuel tank looks spot on which is more than i can say for the fuel which was a dark brown colour and stank

LOL do get the odd one though few and far between, picked up our first Lister D couple of weeks back also had a Johnsons sludge pump powered by a nice little villiers and another pump origin unknown, looked a bit like a lee howl in shape, nowt to go ohhhhhhh over but nice all the same boss let him have the lot for 40 quid though the boss kept the Johnsons lol,
Ref the Scott shame but no had to buy that one lol

yes mate i know what your saying..but the cheap engines arnt about like they used to be..
all the scrap yards seem to get them all..lol

OK regards the Scott paint there seems to be a little leeway of several shades over the years.
You can try any of the following sources:

Ford Dark Aubergine

Geoff Green of the Scott Motorcycle club who sells a Scott Purple

Your local paint mixing factor. Ask them to have a looksee at their RAL Colour chart and look at RAL 4006 or maybe RAL 4008. Anyone who knows anything vaguely about classic two stroke motorcycles will recoginse the colour!

PS as far as I know it only seems to be known as "Scott Purple". The factory might have had their own name for the colour I guess.

Matt many thanks for the paint colour info very much appriciated i shall chase it up when time gets a bit closer to needing it, have started stripping and cleaning the removed parts up today, have decided to prep everything as i take it off this time, see pics below, one quick one thought i would remove the pulley and flywheel today but have hit a snag manage to get one of the pulley nuts off but the other two are just rotating ie nuts not coming off, now theres no way to hold the stud to stop it rotating so that i can undo the nut has anyone got any idea's of how to over come the problem

Abes could you (carefully) wedge a screwdriver or similar between the pulley and flywheel where the nut has been removed to tilt the pulley slightly to trap the studs while undoing the nuts? Or maybe get some heat on the nuts to free things a little?

No chance mate as it appears the pulley is very slightly recessed into the flywheel, heat might be an option but i still would have the problem of the whole thing rotating, a mate suggested spot welding a rod between the two remaining studs to hold them but not that sure my welding is up to that lol

abes give ian a call,he will weld it for you and he has a puller as well..
only cost you a dozen eggs...lol

Abes they must be bolts not studs if they were studs they would unscrew, so is there no way you could get at the back of the flywheel? Other option is split the nuts with a sharp chisel if you can get one in.

Had a look today, checked the back of flywheel nothing visable, not enough room for hammer and chisel think welding might be the only option.
Managed to get some more done today, stripped off the exhaust system and tinware, also managed to strip and clean exhaust system, tinware and tank, pics below

Been busy today managed to remove the flywheel and pulley (ended up spot welding the bolts to stop them turning) which have been stripped and cleaned have also managed to finish preping all the other parts that where outstanding also managed to primer everything, the only bit left to sort now is the main engine block but thats just a clean job, pics below

Regarding the nuts i would try and split the castle nuts if you can .
