Re: help..my wolseley WD2 pumps fuel out of the carb....
well i cant think were it goes but its got to have one for pressure changes every up and down of the piston
was woundering if it went into the carb
he says fitted new rings due to lack of compression earlyer today
woundered if rings are not sealing correctly to bore and compression being dropped into crankcase and blowing back through carb
no or low compression due to new rings does happen
my farther was agri engineer specialist for leyland david brown and fiat
and after some rebuilds they had to put tractor on a dyno tester for up to 20 hrs just to get the power back into some of the cylinders
and also on some new engines from fiat

Re: help..my wolseley WD2 pumps fuel out of the carb....
WD's breathe through the carburettor base, where the flash arrestor gauze is if it still has one, I would try another plug Mike before I went any further. There was one at Lincoln last year doing the same, the poor guy had the carb to pieces and the magneto and I suggested the plug but he said that it was a new one and sparked ok. After about an hour I took him a plug across, fitted it and away it went, so even a new NGK was absolutely useless but sparked fine in the fresh air. The other thing with the WD's and PT's is that if they dont fire straight away they soon flood, and they will never fire then. I tend to just turn the fuel on just enough to fill the float chamber and then start it, turning the tap back on when it picks speed up.

Mike you are turning it in the right direction? Stupid question but it has been known.

A good point! A lot were reverse rotation, but I assumed that Mike had run it in the past?

I think that what's needed here is some sagely advice.
"Mike, give up on it. It'll break you if you keep trying. Sell it to me for a pittance whilst you still have your sanity. You'll never have to worry about it again"

WD2 fuel problem
Mike, If you have checked timing, spark and carb, there is not much else left, is there plenty compression?., check inlet valve clearance if its too tight it could csuse it to blow back through the carb

Re: help..my wolseley WD2 pumps fuel out of the carb....
many thanks gentlemen, ive read all the answers and ive decided to leave it till im sorted with the shed...
then im going to strip it down again and start again.....i don't get it as ive done 2 more previously with no problem...
it was all running before with poor compression,i am turning it the right way,ive changed the plug 4 times and tested them in the other WD and work fine in there...ive timed it the way i always do,and the book as well...
im not going to scrap it,but it gets you like that sometimes..im going through a tough time at the mo,so its better off leaving it till another day.....
once again thanks for all the help, its much appreciated indeed....
kind regards to all ...

Mike sometimes you just have to start again, it will probably be something small you've over looked.

Hi Mike, Is this a nice fresh painted engine? If it is you may not be getting a decent earth through the paint on the mag.
You will get a good spark on the impulse.

A Older experienced engine man like you should be able to get it sorted easy enough ... you have to check everything with a fine tooth comb
Knowing you its going to be something daft
