help..my wolseley WD2 pumps fuel out of the carb....
hi all..
i should have asked this a while ago..the problem im having is that ive stripped and rebuilt one of my wolseley WD2s and now it wont go..i have a cracking spark from the mag,as one of my son's can tell you as he got a belt from it,the plug is fine but still wont go..ive timed it up as i have before and all it will do is push fuel out of the carb..its all on the rite way and the choke flap is all correct.ive had my mates engine on lone and its all the same as his...
so can anyone tell me what ive over looked please...
its got to be something simple that ive missed????
regards,mike...

is there crap in the float valve or chamber
also is that thin piece of wire still on the float holding the needle ,if so is the wire in the grove of the needle and not higher or lower
as this couses flooding, cant remember if it a bottom or top feed lol of memory
also if wire gone i used a rubber oring on the needle into the grove worked a treat and still does 7mnths later

I agree that the place to start is the float valve. If an engine has been standing without petrol in the carb then the float valve often sticks in the open position letting fuel flood the carb. Sometimes just a wipe with a cloth and a spray of WD40 will cure it.

Re: help..my wolseley WD2 pumps fuel out of the carb....
take the fuel pipe off and see if there a bit of cork paper or somthink that trysto float in the fuel but when taps on pulls down to the carb valve and then goes back in the pipe when fuels off ,ive had that with a villiers piece of the cork tap pissing me arround for hours untill i desided to drain the tank from the pipe of the carb end and out it came

also have you shacked the float as some times the solder has cracked and the fuel seeps in and sinks the float sligthly
also this has happened to me on an engine before

Mike you sure the timings correct? Think I'd check that again if it's not firing when putting fuel in direct.

if i was you mate i would check the ignition timing 1st , then got to the valve timing if still no joy are the valves opening enough and are the clearance set ok ? and are they sealing ....
or it could be one of the rare ones with a wooden piston

Re: help..my wolseley WD2 pumps fuel out of the carb....
Take the cover plate of the carb, looking at it front on . On the left hand side there is a hole make sure this is not blocked, there should be a piece of brass mesh stuff in there, I always use the filters from my funnels.
This always work. I have used sponge before.
I had the same problems with Lucy's engine.

Re: help..my wolseley WD2 pumps fuel out of the carb....
well strip it or skip it then lol
id start from a pile of parts again and build up
IF A FIRST YOU DONT SUCSIED TRY IT ALL OVER AGAIN
if all else fails sell it as spares or repairs lol
inlet valve is sounding the problem blowing fuel and not firing
thats my best guess from the rest ive read on this post since this afternoon

Re: help..my wolseley WD2 pumps fuel out of the carb....
me to and engines other stationary men cant get to go so use it for parts
give me a day on them and away they go
i hate skipping or scrapping them
out of 40+ engines i have ive completed 28 to running order
and 1 needs tinwork painting to finish
and 5 in pieces ready for washing and stripping paint off before the total rebuild
another ive just fitted a new headgasket to tonight and start it up tomorrow see if its better than before ran like a FLAME LICKER
previous owner refitted head and left to washers under the headgasket when i removed the head so used gasket comp and fired it up
but blew it out after 5 mins
anyway ive only scrapped 2 castings so far as these were bought as donner engines one with the guveror gear sticking out the side and another were water ontop of the piston had corroded bore out of rebore specs
so that has become a donner too
also thought your wolseley crankblock breather were do the blow out to atmospere ?? not the carb is it????
