Re: another engine ariving soon :)
it will fit even if it has to go through the house lol , and i have found out it was origionaly sold to Frank Lane & Co., Faringdon in 1943 which is where i live so will be coming back to its home town after 30 years , my plan is just to stip it down 1st and start cleaning and working my way around and rebuilding the internals as i go ....Whats peoples opinions on the best way to undersize it ? i was going to just use alot of diesel ...
Oh and im after a lucus rs1 mag if anyone has one ?

Red diesel the best to un-seize then maybe WD40 (buy it by ther gallon a lot cheaper then the small cans, bout £25) there's always plenty of mags for sale on fleabay or ask you uncle Mike to look at GDSF i'm sure he'll find you one at a good price. Frank's tanks the best place for a new tank, they don't often come up for sale on fleabay so that might be the best bet then you know it will be a good un even tho not original. It's going to cost you big time to get the wife out the house while you bring the engine down the hall
Good luck with it Matt,
Stu

Re: another engine ariving soon :)
just a quick update , the engine is now in alot of bits , have got the cylinder off after alot of struggling and soaking . After that was off found that the mains was siezed as well as the pistion in the cylinder that is now all freed of and turning nicely. the piston and con rod is out and piston needs to be soaked to free off the rings ,had the guvnor apart and the collar is sliding along the crankshaft nicely with the weights moving in and out as they should . The fuel pumps has been freed off as well and seems to be pumping bu hand when filled with diesel . even got the valves out and all been cleaned up .... pitting as normal but they will be re faced on the lathe some point . Oh and forgot to mention the big end bearing seems ok a few little marks but nothing to write home about .... its only going to power something light ish and not all day every day as was meant for i see it so it will be ok .
list of jobs to do left :
free the rings off in piston and obtain some new rings
obtain a new mag chain
make a fuel tank
clean up the cylinder and the valve seats and combustion chamber
degrease the whole engine inside and out ( be staying original condition )
obtain a working mag & fit .
After when that is all done can be assembled and try for a run but if the fuel pump leaks that will have to be re packed .
il get some pictures of it on soon ,
considering was a rusty siezed lump im doing quite well and things coming along fast as only spend a evening a week on it as it is over at my mates place .
regards matt
