Points gap
Carburettor main jet,  (turns out from seated)

Carburettor main jet is fixed, the needle is adjusted for starting and running and is marked on the dial but can be slightly adjusted once running.
The float height is fixed via a groove on the float shaft and a clip on the float.

ignition timing is found on the flywheel rim in the form of a engraved zig zag line, if its worn away then two inches from top dead centre for the points to open.
Off to work so the dimensions will come tonight,

Maryalice loves a Lister - just don't mention anything air-cooled. Rolling Eyes

You will be pleased to know that I have three BSA generating sets, 15vdc and 30vdc, a Pioneer-Gen-motor BD-12-A 12/15 DC and 230 VAC 60hz unit which is similar in style to the BSA sets but made in Chicago , Oh I also have an ex Villiers GPO generator set for when my grandson gets older.
They just happen to be shadowed by eight Lister D's two A's, a B type, H type and an M type.

The Spark plug gap is 20 thou and a D like most engines will run any plug, I prefer to use old plugs that clean up, occasionally I use NGK plugs as a get out, your engine is unlikely to be used as a working engine so will never create the conditions that the plugs were tested for, Lister recommend a Lodge BBL, never seen one, or equivalent.
The tappets are set for 31 thou cold.

Thank you Maryalice, duly noted.
It would have been interesting to measure my valve clearances before I pulled it engine down, there was enough gap there to back a semi trailer through.
The thought of not putting it to work sadens me somehow, I wouldn't mind setting it up as something useful, either an air compressor or lighting generator if I can find a period corect motor to spin.

I assumed you would rally the engine and not use it full time, if you use it full time then stick to the correct plug,
I think Champion Com 8 or Com 7 will suffice.

Many thanks.
Oh.. not full time, just a useful display that can actually do something.other than just tick over while looking great.
I found the timing mark.
How about the point gap? , currently it's only just opening to .004"

Hi Mike

Yes I have thought of buying a book or two, however I decided to save some money and join a forum, create conversation and perhaps share some knowledge.
