Lister D Fuel Filter
Being new to the world of Lister Ds I have a simple question. My engine has stood for over 20 years and I'm now getting it up and running. There is no fuel getting to the carb and I've traced this to a blocked fuel filter. Is it possible to clean this and f so how should I do it or should I just buy a new one and if a new one is the answer can I buy one with a complete tal and filter unit? Thanks in anticipation

If cleaning doesn't work you could try Stationary Engine Parts.
But, if you're not a stickler for authenticity (sorry maryalice!), you should be able to to find something suitable on that there internet auction site.

I think the brass fuel filter can be taken apart for cleaning, but maryalice should be able to confirm (or not) this.

Sadly I cant help, with all the D's I've got I've never had one with a filter but logic says they must come apart otherwise it would be useless.

Leave it to a Petter man.....
The filter bowl that is bolted onto the crankcase unscrew for cleaning, assuming that is the one you are talking about, if it's the one inside the tank on the end of the tap then remove the tap and wash in some kero or something like that and blow through should clean it ok

Re: Lister D Fuel Filter
Thanks Appletop. Yes it's the one inside the tank which is blocked as it's been sitting without and petrol in the tank for years.. I was just wondering what to use to get it clean so petrol will flow through it again. Someone suggested carb cleaner so I'll give both the kero and the cleaner a try (not at the same time!). If those don't shift the blockage I think I'll cut off the filter element and solder in a new one made out of brass mesh from that well known auction site!

I've used that brass mesh before. Remove plunger so you don't damage the seal and apply heat to the body of the tap.

Be honest in the past if it is a turn type tap I don't bother, better to clean the tank out first and that's it. Don't normlly have issues and if I do it's a lot easier to clean....
