Hello from a newbie
I've just got my first engine a:-
Petter A11
number 500218
3 bhp @ 1500 rpm
Welded petrol tank
Painted a dull grey except for the governor arm which has some green on it
Doesn't look as though it ever had a fuel filter
Fair compression and turns over freely.
I haven't tried to run it as the tank came with a load of muck in it.
My wife's grandfather had a connection to Petter in Yeovil so I got the thumbs up.
So far that is all I know about the engine so any suggestions or age and original use, hints and tips will be useful.

Re: Hello from a newbie
Yes the A11 is the forerunner (first generation) of the A1 and appeared about 1946 to replace the A that had been produced from 1936
The A11 was succeeded by the A1 after only a few years.
My oldest A1 is from 1950
I believe the A11 tag was dropped to avoid confusion with the new A2

Re: Hello from a newbie
519848 is the number of my 1947 A11
Once the differences are pointed out it’s really very easy to spot the upgrades that the A1 gained
First the brass instruction plate is gone!
The new tin work allows access to all seven extended cylinder head nuts without removing the tin.
The pressed steel and brazed timing case is replaced with a one piece aluminium casting.
