Hi All,

Just a quick hello to everyone on the forum having just recently joined.

I have always enjoyed looking at the stationary engines when attending classic car shows and local agricultural shows over the years I decided this year to take the plunge and to try and get into the hobby, albeit in a 'small' way. I wanted engines that I could handle/store easily and that would fit into the boot of my car for me to try a few local shows initially to see how it went. Obviously like with everyone the Corona virus soon stopped that plan.

I also want to improve my mechanical skills (which are currently very low) and learn on the job so to speak. Having watched loads of you tube videos over the last couple of years I initially purchased a Suffolk Iron Foundry 75G off flea bay which came without a tank. I have since acquired an old ATCO bullet tank and am in the process of getting it to run. Hopefully.

I have since bought locally to me an original looking Petter AA1 diesel. Its a single speed 1500rpm 1.5hp. It has had a very hard life but starts easily and runs with almost no smoke. I can also carry it no problem. However, as Im sure some of you will confirm its rather loud. It also jumps around the place like a jack in the box as I currently haven't build any stand for it. I run it as it came on my concrete driveway.

I know its not a common show engine but I have seen a couple at shows on the tube before buying it. However now running it at home I am concerned that its too loud to take to shows ?

Any advice/guidance wold be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum.

I too started off with a small engine (Villiers C12) but as you have found, one is not enough Very Happy

If the exhaust is pointing sideways you can reduce the perceived noise by fitting a 90° elbow to point the silencer upwards.

Hi Stuart

Thank you. I tried buying a C12 a few times but always got outbid.

Yeah the exhaust on the AA1 is currently straight out with a thin circular (lister type) silencer welded on.

Thanks for the advice.

Cheers

Leighton

Thank you Gents

Yes Paul The AA1 is a cracking little engine which meets my requirements brilliantly. Although not normal for rallies etc it does appear at shows that I have seen on the tube albeit just one or two sightings. Its just so frustrating at the minute that for such a small thing its so loud !!
