Meadows 6DJ630 dating
Hi All, new to this forum so apologies in advance for any errors I make. I'm based in Nambour, Queensland in Australia and have acquired a Meadows 6DJ630 diesel. She's a non-goer and will need some love to bring her back to life. Wondering if anyone could give us a build date? Serial number is 500857. From the limited info I can find online it appears around 1947?
Cheers Greg

Hi Greg and a warm welcome to forum.

I guess you have already tried local groups

There is a book on fleabay (UK) which, amongst many others, has manual for 6DJ630. But at £60 + postage to OZ would be a tad expensive!

Re: Meadows 6DJ630 dating
Hi Paul, I'll update my username as you suggest.
I haven't reached out to any local sites as yet as thought my best chance would be going back to it's country of origin. Do you know if there are many Meadows collectors in the UK or whether any serial number records exist? There seems to very limited info on the WWW on the brand, but from the info available they seemed to be fairly prolific through the 40's and 50's?
Thanks again for your assistance.
Cheers Greg

Am I right in thinking that the 4 x 4 army Scammel Pioneer's had the petrol engines replaced with Meadows engines when they went onto the civil market. A scammel owner might know.

Not a lot out there in web land. One hit I got was
'Report on the Silver King Mine at Lawn Hill Northwest Queensland'
The report recommends the purchase of two Meadows 6DJ630 60Kw diesel power units and notes that "it is possible to purchase these unit secondhand in very good condition' The report is dated 15th May 1961
Not much use but I'll keep surfing - recovering from eye operation so no heavy lifting, dust etc.

Stationary Engine magazine Helpline section gives an address of someone willing to help and possibly date Meadows engines. He is listed as John Drewett, 23/48 Fairfax Rd, Warners Bay, 2282, Australia. Tel 0249658020 or http//jd80.mysite.orange.co.uk
