Hi to you all,
I joined the group earlier today. We have a Villiers Mk 25 engine, Serial No 505/4349A, and I feel I'm about to embark on its renovation. The engine has a smaller version of a Blakes Hyd Ram Pump attached to it. The pump is coloured red. Perhaps this can identify its manufacturer? The combination of engine and pump was used to lift water from a beck (stream) up to our farm at 1065 feet when it was a cattle farm. The engine hasn't been run for in excess of 13 years and looks to be worse for its lack of use. I have had an interest in stationary engines for a short time but no experience of working on them so I'm feeling a bit daunted by the task. My aim is to get it up and running again and use it to transfer water from an underground reservoir on the farm into our animal stock barn. I would like some info on the engine, eg date of manufacture etc, but realise that this may depend on the numbers detailed on the flywheel rather than the main engine plate on the engine housing.

Hi and a warm welcome to the forum. Plenty of Villiers help to be had here.
Dating is a bit tricky as there are, to my knowledge at least, no known production records.
Have a close look at tank and the back of the fan cowl and you may find a lozenge shaped stamp with the letter AJH and year.

Good luck

Re: New Member from North Yorkshire
My thanks for all the welcome messages. I can't wait to get around to bringing the engine into my workshop. I'm sure I will have plenty of queries to keep you all busy. Any spare time I have after looking after our small holding is taken up by research on Villiers engines.
Are there any recommendations on the books to get that may help with the strip and rebuild of the engine and pump?
Kind regards to all.
Tony

Hi Tony, welcome aboard.
There are hard copy manuals available on Ebay etc. or in PDF format, I think @Woodsman has the biggest library.

Hi Tony,
Can't help with pump, but I can email you a pdf copy of the Villiers manual if you need one.
