Little Man's new engine

Bit more progress on this tonight, I was thinking about what to use for the water, looked on ebay for painted galvo fire buckets and soon turned away when I saw they were going for anything up to £40 inc postage. Went to local iron mongers, bought a galvo bucket for £6, sprayed it red with my left over paint from pillar drill then stencilled FIRE on the side with some white hammerite I had on the shelf

It looks pretty good even if I say so myself lol, the plan is to make a post up with a tap on the top, put a hose fitting on the lower back face of the bucket for the pump intake with a corresponding hole in the post for the pipe to dissapear through hopefully unseen. Hopefully the result will be a bucket hanging on a tap post, constantly filling but never over flowing

Sounds like a good idea, we need to see a video of the finished item.

Ian that's just what I was thinking, great job I'm sure you'll keep the kids (and some adults) guessing for hours. Get some kid to watch the bucket so it doesn't overflow see how long they'll stand there yes I'm a cruel person.

Will do, re-built the pump last night and gave it a clean up (it being a marine salt water cooling pump and me being ex-marine engineer it didn't take long lol), it was originaly run clockwise but the Suffolks run anti clock at the output shaft, the rubber impellor although in quite good condition, its fins are all set in one direction due to age/loss of flexibility and only ever being run in one direction. I have turned it round now so the fins will go the right way, have a new impellor on its way but will keep this as a spare for it. Two of the face plate screws were sheared off which is very common in these pumps when those that don't know what they are doing try to undo them when they are corroded in. Nothing a bit of heat and wd40 doesn't cure with a pair of vice grips and a tappy hammer to the studs, both screws now removed and picked up 2 new screws from my local volvo penta marine dealer today for only £2 each

It looked to be working fine so it should be realy moving water now with it set up correctly, well done mate.
