Abes is getting very cheeky lately i wouldnt dare speak about my Doctor like that, mind you the old ones do come out with comments like that and dont realise they have said these things so maybe i can overlook it Abes ,

Oh yes and forgot to say no progress on the engine today as its Er indoors birthday so not sure if i can sneak an hour or two in or not today, and need to go to work tonight and recoup some of the money spent on her lol, damn birthdays they do get in the way of engines,
i did get the head/hopper back on last night so looking mighty fine now, pics to follow later,

Only me again also forgot to say have a look on the back cover of this months SE mag theres a pic of Jamie Coates sons 1.5hp petter m with Wico EK mag the same as mine, jamie did say that engine went to Cornwall with mine originally, and it also says there not often found, well thats good news for me,

Ok i took my life in my own hands lol, while she was happily unwrapping pressies cards etc i crept out and took a cpl more pics of yesterdays progress, excuse the exhaust pipe itself its temporary im waiting for my copper one to return,

Yes Matt its all brushed, prob wont be like that after its run a few times, but i have the pics to show it shined once lol,

i went to pick up my exhaust today this is it i really pleased with it,





wife says its like me on a good day, i dont know know what she means


well after a bit of bending and hammering i came up with this,

a big thanks to Abes for supplying the copper pipe and First Choice metal spinning of Christchurch owned by a friend of mine,

bit longer than id imagined i thought he was going to flare the 2ft of pipe i gave him but no he decided to have a play and added a few touches like the brass top, im well chuffed with it,
this is how it will polish up,

Looks brilliant mate, your mate has done a first class job you should tell him he could have quite a profitable sideline doing them

He will do them for people but they would have to get a quote of him, hes made the big ones for traction engines as well in the past,
im pleased with it, only concern is if its too long it may cause oil to build up and run back down but well see it could be shortened if needs be,

Looks great Ian but you may lose a lot of power don't forget it's works like a two stroke so back pressure will be all wrong

The pipe does look impresive but I think a little shorter for the exhaust gases to escape, don't know how you could find out the correct length unless it's trial and error. Thinking about it when engines were installed in big houses as generators they used long exhaust pipes so don't know if there's some measurement to use for it to be correct or was it guess work.
It's a bit of a headache but sure you'll sort it, (it's does look good )

Thanks for all the comments, the pipe itself is only about 2ft long it looks long from how ive taken the pics but the exhaust pot sits high up, at the last two rallies weve been two theres a chap there with a 5hp, his pipe is as long if not longer and his runs spot on, ive never seen a petter run like it there is and i mean it no smoke or oil spots whatsoever its unbelievable Mike D has seen it running, the chap that owns it works in the same building as petters and it has been rebuilt, so im hoping my pipe wont be to long but like weve said and my thoughts as well it might not work but at least well know for future reference,

it is working very hard driving that dynamo, thats why it runs so well

yes thats the one chris's engine, yes it is working hard, but hes told me a few tips so well give it a go,

Ok boys here were go, a short vid of its very first run since rebuild, its not running 100% and havent even tried on oil yet running on petrol at the mo while getting set up, couldnt run too long as its late and dont want to p+++s the neighbours off they are very tolerant of me,

Sounds pretty good to me mate and certainly looks the dogs love to see it in the flesh so to speak as vids never give you the full picture and sound, give yourself a well deserved pat on the back for a first class job done.



Oh and reference comments ummm whales are very big or is that a statement lol was always crap at english at school
