Are you using anything special for the wood or just what you can get.

Re: 15.24cm wood planer restoration
first axle is done now
done the champhers that i missed and started on the second axle
all the timber has had 3 coats of yacht varnish
I should finish the other axle and the last bits of painting this week ready for the big rebuild next week

You've sure got on with that and made a first class job of it, looking forward to seeing it all rebuilt and working now.

Re: 15.24cm wood planer restoration
Loaded ready for the rebuild at the workshop, I still need to make a guard for it
hopefully i will have time to make a start building tomorrow.
This was going to be a long term project but it caught my interest to the extent that i skipped lunch at the workshop some days and worked evenings and weekends at home to make progress on it.
I haven't touched the Mk 15 Villiers for over a month now
Estimated cost of materials and paint and the planer all in getting on for £300.00 so not a cheap project, but any restoration from scrap to show condition costs money.
Value in terms of interest and pride in the achievement, and interest from showing it eventually............priceless

Re: 15.24cm wood planer restoration
Wow that's some money put in to it, I don't think it's something we consider when we restore, I never think of the cost (now I know where my money goes LOL). It's ok for guys like Mike and Jonesey but the rest of us on limited pocket money it just goes to show how much we love the hobby. Some might think were odd, members like Abes looking for old hard wood, I get down to the re-cycling centre (tip) for bits n bobs just goes to show how much it costs even try to stick to a budget.
Neville your doing another 1st class job and something else to be proud of, your going to be a show winner once your all finished.

there are all sorts of things to add to the cost of the original machine, i will try to remember them all.
wood, wheels, axles, 38 nuts and bolts, washers, r clips, split pins, primer, paint, varnish, shot blasting, machining the holes in the wheels, filler, sandpaper, paint brush.
probably missed something from the list but you get the general idea
made a start building today, no more until Tuesday as we don't go to the workshop weekends and the truck is in for a service on Monday.

Re: 15.24cm wood planer restoration
Mike just a joke like the normal forum ribbing, so why bite at me and Kev? We all spend what we can and buy what we can some are in a better position to do so then other through one thing or another you have been buying and selling for years, well done to get up from a Lister D to what you have now, I'm sure nobody would knock you for what you've done and bought as you've a lot of fine engines to be proud of.
