First Engine
Been given a Lister D which will be my first engine project but it will have to wait whilst I finish a couple of other projects on the go at the moment. I will be getting the missing parts together when I see them, mainly fuel tank, starting handle and chain cover. There is no identification plate and I have been unable to see a number on the flywheel, no doubt as things progress I may find out more. I have been told it came of a cement mixer but any help confirming that would be great.

Re: First Engine
The small flywheel would suggest that it is a 2hp, 1000rpm version of this engine.
It is also reverse rotation as was normal for some cement mixer engines.
I see you have the D1062 cylinder head. This was introduced in May 1938, so you engine will be after this date.
If it is a 1/1062 head then the date will be after October 1939 (I can't quite tell as the photo doesn't show it).
So built between 1938/9 and 1964.

Re: First Engine
I see the serial plate is missing from the crankcase door; polish up the flywheel face and the number should be found to be stamped on there. Send the number to Doreen Edgington <enginbooks@aol.com>who can accurately date it for you.

Re: First Engine
Its been a while but life gets in the way sometimes. I have been doing bits now and again and finally I tried to start it at weekend and away it went. just need to tidy it up a bit more and find a couple of parts. Tried to upload a short clip of it running but failed miserably.

Re: First Engine
The data plate is missing from the crankcase door as a result now the engine is running oil starts to come out of the screw holes. Does anyone know the thread size of the data plate securing holes so I can fit screws to stop the oil from escaping, thanks.
