Lister CS 9/1(JP1) Empty Lister CS 9/1(JP1)

Post by EarlBathurst Thu Dec 19 2013, 20:43

Hi all, for a couple of months now i've had this 9/1 sitting in my garage it was rescued from the farm where had been from new , it was in very reasonable condition considering it had been approx twenty years since it last ran after frost had cracked the side of the block !
this last an easy repair for me and was done within a day or so of it arriving home! It was minus its fuel pump and after waiting a while i acquired one and had it set up for a 9/1. so today now that i'm on xmas hols i pulled it out into the rare sun and once i'd consulted the manual on how to start it ( i know nothing about diesels) i gave it a swing,, cough put bang it burst into life for the first time in preservation! :Donce i'd tweeked the governor it settled down to a steady beat !
Now being as it was also missing its startomatic control gear and i know nothing about electrics i have no way of telling if the genny is working or not  :?
Does anyone know of a spare fuel pump for a CS9/1 (JP1) ?? and also a control box/switch gear for a startomatic??
Many thanks,Karl.

Nope! That trailer was just used to winch the engine then the jenny onto the platform / trolley !

Lister CS 9/1(JP1) Empty It generates !

Post by EarlBathurst Tue Dec 24 2013, 18:17

Hi all. Today i had a look at the generating side of things, Armed with a new meter i found that nothing was coming from the terminals, so i thought i'd have a look into it, first i took the brushes off and found that each one was stuck in its holder so not actually touching where it should! next with the engine running once again And a bulb wired up as per a picture in another active thread on this forum http://www.stationary-engine.net/for...ad.php?t=35958) i dug out my industrial battery charger remembering what somebody had said, that some generators need exciting i flashed the 24v volts across the terminals and at first very dimly the bulb began to glow then after 30secs or so it became very light in the garage the meter says that it settled at 120v , so until i can source a correct switch board i've governed the engine speed back and its sitting around the 90v mark just to be safe !
here's a pic of it earlier,
