Re: amanco oiler
hi lewis
as matt says strip it down and clean it out, the filter guaze and all the holes behind it ,
lightly clean the needle and swill out ,then rebuild go steady not to break the glass ,and see if it works now.
but if the oiler works when engine is stopped and not when running ,the timing is just slightly out and blow back past piston rings pressure,
pushes the oil back in the reservoir and never get to the piston , also when oiler is removed from engine ,put piston to top of bore and see if theres a hole through the casting, it maybe just exhurst slightly late or to small a silencer or gases out to restriked,if thats not working then
ignitor to soon or both ,took me a couple of hours messing to get the running ballanced and oiler flowing like a clock
if so then turn over towards bottom and see if the hole in piston for little end oiling is a the top and not the bottom ,as piston will go both ways around .
aim for around 15 drips per min ,rpm depending
hope this helps ,best guess as not seen or heard it to narrow the possablitys mate

matt
it was just a rough guide to get it wet and losend up like a good w*m@n -"person "
my motto is "the wetter the better, too dry its going to die"
oils cheaper than an amanco
but all in all lets see if weve got the oiler issue sorted ,and he will go from there with the project
catch you when i get time as off tomorrow to onslow park, after the great mrs abes has poped around

cheers Kev (and Matt) will clean out the oiler. Just want to get the amanco running at the moment, going to restore her around winter.

Re: amanco oiler
If it is a normal Amanco then it will blow back up the oil tube, nearly all the smaller Amanco engines do this, this is because the oiler hole is to close to the hopper and the rings move back beyond the hole at BDC, that is what it is, it is nothing to do with timing, just a flaw in the design. To cure this a "Proper" Amanco oiler has a breather tube fitted to allow the oil to drip down and the air to blow out, if you haven't got the tube all is not lost, just leave the smaller glass tube out of the sight holes below the main chamber.
My Amanco would blow back into the oiler all day long but I never had any problems with it running "dry" and I had it set at about 10 DPM and just gave it a squirt with the oil can every now and then (When I remembered!!)
Just strip it down, clean it up with some white spirit or paraffin and put it back together.

Yep, proper Amanco oiler, the brass tube inside the glass is the breather tube.

Re: amanco oiler
Hi guys just a little question, do you have to fill the oiler right up to get it to work as the oiler is still not working after a clean and soak in paraffin overnight. If not what's wrong with it?

Re: amanco oiler
If it doesn't then you need to adjust the knurled nut on the top until it does, then it will work, if after unwinding the knurled nut it still doesn't drop then the hole is blocked still.

Re: amanco oiler
Right I heard it was running what number should I have it on the petrol mixer
Reason I asked was to make sure I didn't blow the garage up!
Can I still run it like that?

Re: amanco oiler
hi sorry for the amount of questions but could I still run the engine until I restore it the way it is or is it not advisable seen as its smoking out of the bore?
