Lister D governor oiler wick.
Hi All,
Probably a silly question but my flip top governor oiler has a central pipe/tube which I think is for a wick - if this is so what should I use for a wick?,how much of the wick should dangle from the thread end into the governor and into the top reservoir of the oiler?,and finally what oil should I put in it?
Any information would be appreciated.Thank you.
Kev.

Re: Lister D governor oiler wick.
The wicks would have been worsted wool, normal engine oil will be fine to use. You can get away without a wick if you squirt a drop of oil down the hole every now and then.
Hope this helps, Dan
Edit - the wick should protrude around 1/8 -1/4" below the oiler

Even a piece of knitting wool will suffice, so long as the oiler is topped up it'll be fine

Lister D govenor oiler wick
Hi Kev and Janner,
Thanks for your input - it is much appreciated.
I will try what Dan suggested and not use a wick for a while until I source some worsted wool - I might also go for a walk round the local fields and see if I can pick up some sheeps wool - I understand that this 'raw' wool is better than knitting wool as it hasn't had all the natural oils removed.

I can't believe this is my third post and I am trying to offer advice but I was in the same predicament not so long ago and was pointed towards the round wicks you use in Coleman lamps - depending on your oiler you might need to trim or fold but they work very well (flow is good) and are inexpensive. Not sure if you will find a round wick of the same diameter you need but a flat wick folded or trimmed would do the same job (this worked on a Blackstone in a corn grinding mill! ) Or sheepskin wool from the fence line as Kev states would do the job well.
