Cleaning a Fuel Tank
Hello all
I am in thre process of stripping and sorting my Lister D. The fuel tank has been empty for a few years but is in sound condition. Any advice on the best way to give it a bit of a clean out?
Regards
John

Not sure if its recognised practice but I was told to put some gravel in the tank and shake it around to release loose debris then flush out.

Hi John, If its rusty and not just paint flakes than I am a big fan of using oxalic acid - (bee keepers use it as well so cheap and easy to find) let it dry naturally then a bit of degreaser and let that dry - I finish off with a little turps or petrol to clean any residue - and let that dry in the air..... hey presto a clen dry tank - Ians tip is also v good for flakey paint and loose rust - you just might need to have it sitting on a loose tumble dryer to agitate the gravel (clean gravel or shot is useful) or walk around the garden for an hour looking slightly bonkers as you shake the bejaysus out of it
