Looks ripe for restoration, you will find the serial number on.the flywheel also the book on how to restore a lister D is really useful.

well i do fuel tank repairs but this is abit beyond my repair levels ,well cost wise ,cheaper to just buy another one
rusty and a good old school casting repair with some plate and rivets "thats caracter that i would keep " lovly old repair job
challage on wait for the pics for this one ,as its before and after will be worlds apart
get stuck in there ,and dont give up mate ,
i have a few d tanks on my shelf by the way if interested just post or pm me

Looks like a nice challenge but it will give you a great feeling of achievement and satisfaction when it fires up again. I see the valve cover is missing I'm sure I have one in the garage. Pm me if your interested. The lister d restore bible is by David Eddington who will also date it for you. Good luck and look forward to seeing updates and progress pics.

Re: lister d project the rusted thing
Go careful not to lose small caps on top of valves they can disappear down into push rod gap and disappear into timing gears never to be found again.

Hi all
I have just pulled the head off the lister d and it was seized. Plenty of wd40.
the valves are not seized which is good it will save some wd40

hi all
sorry about not posting i have been on holiday so all i have done to the engine is take the cog off the and start to cleaning the body down with a drill with wire brush bit .we had to hit the cog and heat the cog and pull the cog to get it of the shaft
we need to use a more powerful drill

hi all
me and my dad have been very busy today do the Lister d. we have taken the mag off the engine and start to take the mag apart, what is the mag cover made of could we sand it down(dad thinks it may be asbestos) and give it a paint we have wire brushed the bottom end of the engine and the head off the engine, I will have to get lots of part for the engine but all in good time. and we have taken the valve out but i am not sure what the valve cap are because someone post about it and i was not sure which bit you mean

Re: lister d project the rusted thing
hi ben
looks like your making a dent in the project
the magneto cap should be bakerlite so i just use soft wirewool or just house hold nylon scourering pad "the flat square ones "

Re: lister d project the rusted thing
hi all
hi we have had a very busy day today got the piston out very pleased. we have painted all the engine but not the fly wheel and it is all ready to go back together to put the top coat of paint on it and put the new shiny bits on it
me and my dad try to get the piston out loads of ways and the thing that worked was plus gas, hammer and a block of wood.
and it is out of the pot.
still got rubbish in the sump
