Hi guys,
I'm getting oil leaking from between the mag and the timing gear housing. I'm obviously missing a gasket or washer, can someone tell what it looks like and where it should fit.
Thank you. Smile

There is neither a gasket or seal Gary, I usually just push the mag fully forward before tightening the bolts.  However a circular gasket or a smear of Hylomar or similar would do no harm.

Pete.

When I restored the Ruston Hornsby 6PB for Mark I made up a circular gasket to go between the mag & the gear case.

Do you have any gasket paper? There's an eBay seller called TYM seals & gaskets who stocks Flexoid paper, I have loads of off-cuts which would do the job if you want. I can stick a selection into an envelope for you. 0.8mm would do the job quite nicely, but you'll have to re-do your timing again to get it in place, unless you slit it & get it in there.

Thanks Nutts, I have some gasket paper and some nice cork rubbery stuff that I think would do the job. I don't want to use any sealant at this stage as the mag is on loan from a friend.

Don't want anything too thick, but you'll know best as you can see the gap. Just whatever will fit in there really. Maybe give it a smear of grease (especially if it's gasket paper), to help it seal. Job's a good'un. Very Happy

Hi Gerry,

This is the info I received:
Ruston PT 216049 was sold in 1941, to Balgownie Engineering & Dairy Supplies Co. Aberdeen, Scotland.
Before the war, PT's were painted Ruston's "Deep Bronze Green". During the war, only War Office Grey was available. When Rustons ran out of green paint, early in 1941, they used up old stock of Hornsby "Bullock Maroon" from their paint store before having to use the War Office Grey.

This is how she's looking just now.

Cheers
Gary
