A couple of new toys to play with
Well to things getting a bit quite on the engine front thought i could do with something to keep me busy so with that in mind ive aquired a couple of more toys, the first is a Ruston PT needs some tarting up and the mag looking at plus a couple of other little bits other than that looks ok, the other is a bandsaw blade sharpner which ive been after for quite a while, again all there and working but could do with a bit of tarting up too, will put some pics up tomorrow when i get a bit more time and they've been unloaded, one request if anyone's got them going spare would like a brass carb cover and an orignal exhaust for the PT oh and does anyone have any dating info on these too

Sound like a couple of good toys you have got there. Don't think I have seen a band saw blade sharpener before.

Re: A couple of new toys to play with
Right as promised here's a few pics, made a start on the Ruston this afternoon starting to strip the paint on it and found that it was green underneath also found some old writing in white on the side of the hopper behind the tank (cant read it as very degraded) was this normal as if it is orignal then that will mean that the orignal colour was indeed green and not burgandy, have taken all the plates, carb, exhaust and tank and brackets off, have drained the oil and was well supprised at the internal condition after a quick wipe out it looked brand new so at the moment not planning to stip the insides out but you never know that might change, pics below have also included some of the blade sharpner which will get the blackner treatment later, would have added more pics of progress but camera battery ran out now on charge so will add some more later lol

Looks like original green Abes, most of the burgandy painted ones (mine included!) are repaints. If you send an email to Ray Hooley rehooley@ntlworld.com with your spec number etc he will date it and state who it was supplied to, he can also supply the RUSTON roundels and tell you where to apply them.

Re: A couple of new toys to play with
Looks like the lighter Lincoln green, see Nutts 6PB thread. Will look nice in working clothes. Are you going to do a more original type tank bracket or leave it as is? Also the drain hole is a bit high in the plate, will leave a bit of water in the bottom of the block. Check and make sure the intermediate and the mag gears are OK, they have a habit of breaking on these ones with the impulse mag. Look forward to seeing the finished result.
The sharpener looks an interesting bit of kit too. Never seen one like that.

Re: A couple of new toys to play with
Tank brackets are getting changed as is the side plate with the tap as tap hole is well big plus a new smaller tap is required as the one removed was just a modern plumbing fitting, will check outs Nutts PB thread with reference the paint colour

Re: A couple of new toys to play with
Are you going to give the Ruston your normal treatment?

Re: A couple of new toys to play with
Lincoln Green is BS381c shade 276 whilst Deep Bronze Green is shade 224. Your choice, but if the paint on the block is original then it looks like the lighter green. Blaw-Knox made industrial equipment, so your patent Black would look quite appropriate?

Re: A couple of new toys to play with
Quick update of todays progress, managed to strip some more of the paint off and also managed to get the flywheel off, quick question ref the flywheel in the centre there are four bolts what are they there for reason for asking is that on investigation found one was held in with some sort of resin and the top of one was sheard off and held in place with the same type of resin only two of them are doing there job (what ever it is), next question theres a cover on the shaft end that takes the starting handle its held on by two screws thing is there appears no way of getting it off the shaft due to the pin that takes the starting handle its also made out of ali would this have been orignal, the last pic is of what looks like degraded writing anyone know what it might have said (it would have been hidden behind the tank)

Re: A couple of new toys to play with
The bolts in the flywheel boss are unlikely to be a Ruston fitment. Most probably something Blaw Knox added as a direct drive to the piece of machinery it drove. Is there not a slot in the sleeve so you rotate it to that point and it slips over the pin?
Regards colour Deep Bronze is the usual but odd batches do appear in the lighter Lincoln green. I've had 3, 2 8PB's and a 3hp AP all in the lighter green.

Re: A couple of new toys to play with
Cheers mate, no there's no slot in it which you would have thought there would have been, with reference to the bolts then with the two missing ones then do you think it would be ok to weld up the holes then, reference the paint colour whilst stripping today found one colour that looks alot like Stuart green ie that was on my P5 and funny enough also found some light blue behind the flywheel go figure lol
