Villiers Mk10 sump removal
I have undone the 4 bolts holding the sump on but it won't separate from the crankcase. It looks like previous owner may have used a sealant instead of the proper gasket. I don't want to wack it too hard incase I break something. Any ideas? Or, do I not worry about getting inside? It would be good to clean the black residue out though. I have some new parts coming - condenser, HT lead and air filter but still haven't found a fuel cap:(

Re: Villiers Mk10 sump removal
It should come off at that Greg, nothing else holds it. I would remove it as they tend to collect a lot of cr*p and sludge in there, there is also an oil trough for the con rod dipper that gets clogged. I would use a piece of wood and a hammer etc and just keep hitting it evenly, they are quite tough if you hit them on the corners.

Re: Villiers Mk10 sump removal
clamp the sump to a hevy table or wood you can stand on and wiggle it until the seal starts to break away
then lift it block up striegt and then lie it on its side "reason as follows as like FODEN PETE says above and more,
if still not playing the game :-
i use a stanley blade or steel ruler, and cut it apart the rest, as the dipper on the bottom of the conrod is very easy to snap off, and some of the sumps has the dipper tray fixed to the sump and not to the block so as to protect the alloy dipper on sump removal

Thanks for the tips. I will give it another go tonight. Is the gasket paper or other material?
