Hi,

Some later D's were fitted with the Lucas SR1, I would say your engine is a later D so it might be an SR1 thats fitted.

Cheers

Luke just a note, try to remember some of these engines have been abused for years so if a part failed the farmer or whoever would just get anything they could to get the engine up and running again and with things like mags being interchangable it's quite often to find the wrong mag etc fitted. It is good when restoring an engine to return it back to original but some people like it restored as it was found the choce is up to the individual. You will hear of people buying an engine then changing the mag to it's original spec and it also goes down to what spare cash you have to make the change as mag are not a cheap item and the early "hovis" mags do sell for good money with prices starting from £50 upwards it's the price of another engine.

Is the shims the ones that fit under the mag on a Lster D, if so there's normally some for sale on ebay at a reasonable price, but if you haven't changed anything you shouldn't need any more on your rebuild.

yep the standard ones that go under mag, can't see any on ebay but before stripdown the chain was a little loose and would improve if i put 1 or 2 more shims in

Well I hope your sorted now, it's strange as there's nearly always shims for sale on ebay but it's because your looking for some theres none to be found, sods law as they say Laughing Laughing Laughing If you need anymore just put a wanted post up on here as I'm sure there'll be a few about. A little tip you don't want your chain to tight or it will pull on the bearing in the mag, these engines will run ok with a good bit of slack in the chain.
