the unpainted rim of the flywheel on my petter is badly rusted from being stood, and i'd like it to be shiny. i tried holding some emerycloth against it while it was running, which has improved it, but it is slightly pitted. i can't afford to send it off to get the rim machined to get rid of the pitting, and was wondering if anyone has a cheaper option?

I just use a wire brush or emery whilst running and find the result to be ok, the trick is protection once it's cleaned, alot use cling film or lightly oil it.
