hi there
ive just got my petrol /parrafin engine going
ive tested it on 100% parrafin/kerosene and ran with a smoky exhurst with no loud
and with load , no smoke at all
read the book for the p/p engine and all it says is run 5 mins on petrol
and turn over to parrafin/kerosene 50-55 octane approx and then pages of photos and part nos for the tvo parts they didnt sell many tvos of this engine.

ive bought yellowish coloured parrafin/kerosene as stated on the drum
but now where does the drum, website or fuel company stat or even know what the octane is ??
ive now mixed the kerosene with petrol 50%-50% and will test tomorrow for the smoke and smell test
when i was a kid i used to drive a forson E27N TVO THAT SMELL YOU CANT FORGET
???????? BUT DO I OR DONT I ADD DIESEL ????????
OR IVE ALSO READ THAT SOME ADD 2 STROKEIL INSTEAD OF THE DIESEL ????
WHAT WOULD YOU RECOMMEND ?????????
ALSO DOES A ENGINE RUNNING ON TVO RUN ALOT COOLER THAN ON PETROL?????
it ran for an hour on tvo and was cool enough to pick it up when still running by the block and manifolds
when i turned it back to petrol it took 20 mins to cool down before i moved it without burning me
thanks kev

What engine is it for? A engine needs to be hot to vaperise the heavier fuel

There is a rough guide here, this used heater oil though.

Hello Kev there is no need to add deisel that will oil it up to much.
I found that running my engines and tractors for years on central heating fuel its great and a great smell Smile

Morning Kev I have never mixed anything with the heating fuel, just make sure your engines nice and hot and away it will go. If you can put a load on the engine more the better it will work harder and smell great.

HI KEV...

i ran my witte p/p on blue paraffin last year, and i had a puff of smoke every now and then, about every 2nd 0r 3rd fire, but im running a 110volt generator on it with a series of 10 bulbs, but the last rally i did last year was September at kings fold i mixed the paraffin with petrol and i ran clear,no smoke at all..
this year Ive mixed up 5gallons of petrol/paraffin,so will see how it goes,it was fine the end of last year so i see no reason why it wont be the same this year...
my first rally this year is abbey hill in yeovil at the end of April,so will see how it goes....
i have a mate who has 2 amancos, one 2 1/4hp the other 3hp and he runs them on kerosene, the 3hp doesn't like it unless its got some petrol in with it,but the 2 1/4hp runs all day on it,so in think its different for each engine..
good luck with yours.....

Running an engine on TVO or Heating oil ......They will run better if the engine has a bit of work to do as this keeps the engine hotter. I put a bit less water in the hopper as well.

A guy I know puts a little 2 stroke oil in with the heating oil as he likes the smell, every one else gets the eyes burnt out of their heads!!!!!

Us Scots always get the reputation of being mean.

When do we ever moan about our great Tory alliance government ??

What you should ask yourselves is....where did all the votes come from that put the half wits in power in the first place.

I ll bet 10/1 your money it was not from North of the border.

Put it this way....if it gets any worse workwise I am jacking it in.

Was out tonight and priced a job.Waste of time been priced before me by some Irish tinker with no overheads or TAX to pay. Country is goosed if I had been 30 years younger I would emigrate. Australia are screaming for brickies at the moment and firms out there are paying big money. Too old now to go tramping the world again.

Bill.

I told my son tonight on the way home from pricing that job he should go to Australia.

The only bit that I have no concerns about is .....I only have a few year left of working. I see no hope for the youngsters.

My missus and I have brought up 3 kids. What a thought having to feed and clothe 3 kids in this money less world now. Do not get me wrong I have earned decent money all my adult life but I think it will not come again, the potential to make good money, certainly not in the Building trade.

Yes, it does piss me off losing work that I priced low to get in the first place. Bill

bill...

i know the feeling,we have 6 kids and theres no hope for them, they cant get on the housing ladder and jobs are almost none existent....

i dread to think what the future hold for the youngsters....

Australia sound good,if they have a trade they stand a good chance of getting in...

will have to see what happens in the future...but its not looking good....
