Dead red diesel?? Empty Dead red diesel??

Post by Statman Wed Aug 26 2009, 22:00

Hi there!

I went to run my newly aquired PAZ1 but i was a numpty and never checked the diesel so it ran out of diesel!

So i put some more red diesel in what we drained from our CS and bleed it through had a few coughs and goes but it wouldnt stay going!

We had a problem with our CS refusing to run with the same diesel!!

So do you think its the diesel or still air in the system?

We tried to use WD40 to help but still nout it was running but popping and farting!

What do you reckon?

Best thing to do would be to get some Fresh Clean Derv to start
Bleed the system
You get a lot of water in Derv if left

I will do that soon!

My concern is that i havent knackered the big end shells by using WD40?

Hi Adam
You shouldn't have damaged the big end, unless it was on the way out anyway.

Pleased that you only used wd40 and not easystart, in future you could use a blow torch lit if it's cold and just the gas if it's warm, if you have to resort to these methods to start an engine there is something wrong with it anyway, diesel will go off the same as petrol does and as Chris says diesel absorbs water naturaly.

Drain all of the system as best as you can and then use fresh fuel, bleed through, if you are concerned about the waste of the old diesel (I under stand cus youm Cornish) mix in a small amount to the fresh fuel and use it up that way once the engine is hot.

If your new van is a Hdi one or a high pressure common rail engine, DO NOT put the old fuel in that.

You can buy the same engine oil thats suitable for petrol and diesel engines (not turbo diesel). Read the label first.
