Yes there is supposed to be a plug, its nothing special just a tight fitting piece of metal about 1/4" long, two minutes on a lathe will have you sorted.

There's the first of the non genuine parts added.
A sift through my bolt collection with the vernier callipers found a tight fitting grade 5 bolt from a torque convertor with an 11/32 shank.
Cut to ¼" squared on the bench grinder, polished with a stone, centre popped and some retaining compound to be sure it's going nowhere.
