Re: Petter junior 5 hp
Hi Dave,
Hopefully you can read the text on the drawing. All dimensions in imperial.
I think it will be difficult to make the pin unless you have access to a lathe however I think there is a simpler solution.....
The way the pin works is it sits inside the brass fitting which connects to the fuel drain pipe. There's a small hole in the bottom of this fitting in the large tube part. When the engine is running fuel will fill this tube and then drains down the inside of the pin through the hole in the top of the pin and into the fuel drain pipe. This maintains the fuel level at 1 1/8 inch above the bottom of the fuel bowl. The bottom of the pin forms a valve with the connection to the fuel drain line, when the pin is lifted this then allows the fuel bowl to be drained.
The function is to allow the fuel bowl to be drained of fuel and then filled with petrol to start the engine. Then paraffin can be drawn up from the fuel tank once the engine is running. However if you were just to run the engine on petrol then this functionality is no longer required.
Therefore if you sealed the hole in the bottom of the of the fitting that the pin sits inside and drill a new hole 1/4 inch from the top this would maintain the correct fuel level, you just would not be able to drain the bowl. If you use solder you could easily undo the modification if you ever find out make a pin, but it should get you going. Potentially you could even not bother with the new hole and let the fuel level be a little high, it might overflow though, I'm not sure...

My pictures are from a 1 1/2 Hp but I'm pretty sure you have the same on your engine.

Good morning Woodman, the brass tube that fits into the fuel chamber does not have any hole in as the picture you sent me, but has a tube in the centre. Witch runs the full length plus 1/8 inch above the outside tube

Hmmmm I wonder if someone already modified it to run in a similar way as I suggested? I think this would have a similar effect right? There will be no way to drain out the fuel chamber so there will always be fuel up to the level of the top of the tube?

Not all carbs had the tube on the brass bit, some had a seperate tube inside the carb body.
