Lister Startomatic decompression solenoid
Hi everyone, I've had a 3kw startomatic for many years. Relatively modern and less interesting as it's a direct coupled SA1 engine.
It worked ok if a little reluctant to operate the decompression solenoid on starting. Now that solenoid has gone open circuit. Everything else works fine.
My set has the solenoid wired directly across the alternator output. The alternator generates about 40 volts at cranking speed.
The solenoid was manufactured by Venner. But I suspect that it might not be original as the mounting lugs have been slightly bent to fit in the casing. However everything else lines up so maybe that was just done by a previous owner to make removal easier.
I've seen some old posts but wondered if anyone has found a modern equivalent.
I have a fair amount of documentation if of use to anyone I'll try to scan it.
There seem to have been other types of decompressor operation on some sets including an air vane switch. And a 12 or 24 volt DC solenoid.
Snag is we're playing for high stakes if the decompressor drops out at the wrong time.
Sorry if this is rather long

Many thanks for your welcome. I'm a newbie to the forum so apologies if I get something wrong.
I do have a fair amount of startomatic information which I could scan for people but my internet is slow and my pc past its prime - unfortunately a bit like me. All the best. DK
